Ancient
Greek
Athens Owl Coin
Jewelry
Athens was a prominent ancient Greece city, the center
of classical culture and a great military power. Also prominent was
her coinage, primarily the Athenian owl, which became the most
authoritative coinage of classical Greece. First issued around 525
BC, the "owls", which bear the helmeted head of Athena the
patron goddess of Athens on the obverse and her attribute the owl,
symbolizing wisdom, on the reverse, circulated for over 400 years.
During this period, the coins artistic style changed considerably but
always maintained the same Athena and owl theme. Certificates of Authenticity accompany all Ancient Greek Athens Owl coin jewelry.
