Ancient Roman Imperatorial Julius Caesar style silver denarius coins were minted at the military mint traveling with Caesar in the time period of 49-48 B.C.  The denarius first appeared as the standard Roman coin around 211 B.C. and retained its popularity for over 400 years, well into the third century A.D.  Julius Caesar was born in Rome in 100 B.C. and was assassinated on March 15, 44 B.C. as he entered the Senate.  Caesar was Imperator and Dictator of Rome from 61 B.C. until his death in 44 B.C.

Silver Roman Imperatorial denarius, struck at the military mint traveling with Caesar.  Elephant trampling on serpent / Simpulum, sprinkler, axe, and priest's hat.  The elephant trampling on the serpent signifies the triumph of good over evil as well as Caesar's conquest over the Gauls.  An exceptionally detailed choice very fine grade coin.  Coin with bezel is about the size of a nickel.
